Like you said you have other uses for it. I cut my tulip poplar 4/4x6, rough sawn on my Woodmizer (which isn't so rough). I put the boards up green butting them up tight. When the boards dry you will have about a 3/16" gap. You can then put up 2-3" battens or go board on board with 6" boards.
