Piódão is one of Portugal's 12 historic villages, but also one of Portugal's schist villages. It was the winner of the remote villages category for the 7 wonders of Portugal and is located in the Açor mountain range. Its characteristic blue windows and doors contrast so much with the color of the schist and make it so instagrammable.

Piódão is a bit far village that offers the possibility to contemplate the rural Portugal in all its glory. It is a traditional village located in Arganil, within the Coimbra District, enclosed over a valley with terraces, in a beautiful isolated mountain range with vertiginous summits, deep trimmed valleys and a virgin wooded area known as Serra de Açor Mountains.

It's home to a whopping 224 permanent residents (as of 2001) but plenty of people come to visit as it's one of Central Portugal's prettiest villages and a part of the "Historical Villages" route.
